Darwin at Plymouth
30 x 34cm Limited Edition Giclée Print of 95
In 1831 the Beagle underwent a significant refit in Devonport in preparation for the voyage ahead. Bad weather prevented departure, so the Beagle was moored at Barnpool, off Edgecumbe in Cornwall. They eventually departed just after Christmas 1831. I like to think that they thought of Plymouth while exploring warmer climates and this piece shows the promise of what was to come against the memories of where they came from.
The original artwork was created by sewing recycled fabrics onto a 1999 Admiralty sea chart.
