Ferryside on the River Fowey in Bodinnick, Cornwall was bought by the du Maurier family in 1926. It was here that the author Daphne du Maurier wrote her first novel The Loving Spirit although she is probably best known for her novel Rebecca. This painting is the view looking across the river and was inspired by photographs that I had taken whilst out kayaking on a glorious summer’s day. On the left hand side is Bodinnick where the ferry docks from Fowey – a short trip but very picturesque. It measures 60cm x 60cm and has been painted on a narrow canvas with painted sides so is ready to hang or can be framed. It comes with a certificate of authenticity.

About this Artist

Shirley / Netherton

I am a Cornish artist who for many years has painted in my distinctive naive style. I love colour and enjoy portraying the patterns I see in nature and all around me. A lot of the inspiration for my work comes from the photographs that I take whilst out kayaking and walking along the coast and rivers of the beautiful county of Cornwall although sometimes I do venture further afield! My paintings have travelled even further and now live in the USA, Canada and Europe although many of course still
